Summer is winding down and those lazy, hazy days will be yet another page in the history of our lives. Did you take a vacation? If you did, good for you! Were you were able to unplug and really rest for a few days? If not, schedule some down time right now. Can’t manage a whole week, a long weekend is better than nothing. Money’s tight, how about a “staycation” – go to a local park or museum, take the kids to a beach or pool. Pitch a tent in your backyard and roast marshmallows. Relaxation and fun are usually last on our list, but we have to recharge and get away(even if it’s just to our backyard swing) in order to prevent the fatigue that often plagues us and interferes with our ability to function at work or home.
While you’re looking at that calendar anyway, how about scheduling a mental health day this fall or even an afternoon of indulgence – a relaxing massage or pedicure, a game of golf or a leisurely picnic. My favorite way to spend a stolen afternoon is with a good book, under a tree, in a comfy chair or maybe a cup of tea and a nice spot at your local bookstore. All work and no play make us sick and ill-tempered. Trust me your family and co-workers will thank you!

It just feels selfish to take time for myself. I am so exhausted by the time work, house and kids are done. Have to do it though, getting burned out.
Never enough time or enough money! You are so right, I have not taken a day to myself in years. I feel a facial appt. coming. Thanks!
We have been wanting to take the kids to Disney, but there never seems to be time. Will plan it for the fall.
Thanks for the nudge!
Going to plan a weekend to Cape Cod next month.
