Rainy Day

Rain puddleWhen you wake up to a rainy, dreary day how does that make you feel? Sometimes I feel down and depressed and my mood is gloomy. Other times I just feel relieved that I can’t do any outside work and that takes at least one thing off my to-do list. At the lower end of the mood continuum I want to crawl back into bed, with the covers over my head and hide from the world!

But what if I try to appreciate the rain? I won’t have to water the flowers and everything looks green and fresh. It’s a good day for snuggling on the couch or a favorite chair with a cup of tea to read that book I never have time for or watching a movie with my kids. What else? I am grateful to live in a place where the weather changes with the seasons and is different nearly every day. Rain nurtures and refreshes the earth and washes the dusty grime off roads and cars and buildings(saves me money at the car-wash.)

Could I see a rainy day as a chance for fun and exploration as young children often do? Puddles as a great source of entertainment instead of a nuisance to be avoided. No, in all honesty I am not that enlightened yet, but hey it is a work in progress. Someday if you see a grown woman playing in the puddles wearing her purple rain boots, please come join me.

What are you grateful for today? Please share! If you enjoyed this post, make sure you subscribe to my RSS feed!
