I was listening to a radio show a while back (sorry, can’t remember which one) that mentioned a simple concept that we often overlook – Ask yourself, “What is the problem?” We frequently have a feeling of vague discomfort or irritability, dread, uncomfortableness, but we don’t often stop to identify the real cause. Sometimes it is actually a very simple fix. For example, I am always cold! Ask my family, friends, in fact anyone who knows me well and they will tell you that I wear a sweater to my mother’s house when she has the air conditioner on and do not break out the shorts unless it is over 80. For some reason however, it did not occur to me that this was the problem often with not wanting to go to a restaurant, movies, social parties, etc. until I asked myself why I dreaded those things. The answer – the temperature in public places is set for the comfort of “normal” people, not icicles like me. Simple solution, bring a sweater or dress warmer. Yes, I will be the woman at the movies with my jacket and gloves on, but hey, I don’t dread going anymore! So when you are not sure what is bothering you ask yourself why? It might be that there is a terrible conflict at family gatherings, a loud obnoxious attendee at social gatherings, marital discord or a serious issue of another kind. But just maybe you are; hungry, cold or tired…..
