Going Back to Pre-school

Topics: Fun!

Last week, I was asked to go into my niece’s pre-school class to help make gingerbread houses. We sat on miniature chairs, knees uncomfortably straddling mini-people size tables, while our beloved 4 year olds slathered graham cracker crusted milk cartons with gobs of frosting and strategically( well maybe not so strategically) attached various candies. Attach one, eat one, attach one, eat one and repeat……

This started me thinking on my way home about all of those years since my children were at that age and how fast that time has disappeared, gone, never to be experienced again. Fast forward to this week, when my college sophomore descended with a car full of laundry (a semester’s worth I think) for an all too brief holiday visit. Time passes oh so quickly in the blink of an eye and although I do enjoy being the parent of an adult and a couple of (almost adults,) I sure do miss the sticky fingers and sloppy kisses of the very young.  So, today I am very grateful for the opportunity to be a favored “Auntie” and for the chance that affords me to relive at least on occasion the exuberance and demonstrative affection of the little ones.

Make your own gingerbread house….

Royale, this made me smile. I’m still in the sticky fingers mode and can really relate because I’m looking back at the baby days with nostalgia already.

Makes me think, though, that missing what we don’t have is an important part of appreciating what we do have. Life’s plan is a series of full circles, and I love that so much.
