See Possibilities in Relationships

possibilitiesEven in the most durable and loving relationships, there are reasons for worry.  And even in the most tenuous or troubled relationships, there are reasons for hope.  Continuous attention to the weaknesses of any relationship will make every day more of a struggle.  Constant attention to the strengths of a relationship will make every day a day of possibilities.  The basic premise of this idea is that what you focus on and give your attention to grows, so wouldn’t it better to concentrate on the “good stuff?”

I’m not saying that we have to be Pollyanna, refusing to see problems or conflicts and certainly serious issues need to be dealt with, but what about the petty annoyances…do we honestly think we can change them anyway? Perhaps our time would be better spent strengthening and appreciating the positive, sort of like training your dog with positive reinforcement (though don’t tell my husband I compared him to a household pet!)

  1. Anthony says:

Sharing your dreams is the positive, flip side of complaining.
Share your dreams. Instead of sharing your dissatisfaction and unfulfilled dreams in a negative way, which will only reinforce your own unhappiness and bring others down with you, you’re instead uplifting your own spirits and those around you by sharing a dream that is in your heart. – Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff
